This is how the DNA origin analysis works
The DNA origin test explained in 6 steps
1. Order test kit
You can order a DNA origin test online. Because not all providers are trustworthy, it is recommended to pay via Paypal, as you will then benefit from a buyer protection program. Pay attention to who uses your data and how, and where your data is stored and the DNA samples are stored. With certain providers, by accepting the terms and conditions, you agree that your DNA samples may be used for commercial purposes. Only with iGENEA you have the complete separation of DNA samples and your personal data! This way you are sure that no conclusions can be made about your person at any time.
2. Get test kit
You will receive the test kit. Depending on the provider, additional costs for shipping and customs clearance may occur. It may be that the test kit is sent as a package, which you may have to pick up at the post office counter. With iGENEA, there are no additional costs and you will receive the test kit in a especially robust and neutral packaging directly in your mailbox.
3. Take samples
A Mucus Sample suffices to get a sample of your DNA. Taking the sample is simple and painless and can be done at home. Send the samples with the envelop included in the sampling kit.
4. DNA-Analysis in the Lab
The DNA from the saliva samples is isolated and then analysed. The DNA test is carried out in an ultra-modern certified laboratory. Here you can find further information: Method of Analysis.
5. First Results
In 6 to 10 weeks, you will receive the first results within your iGENEA online result. The access to the worldwide largest database will then enable you to search for relatives.
6. Your personal result
The result shows your ancient tribe (e.g., Celtic, Germanic, Viking or Jewish) as well as the region of origin of your ancestors (e.g. western Europe, Scandinavia or the Middle East). Apart from that, you also receive explanations about your ancient tribe and the haplogroup as well as graphics, animations and guidance on researching your origin and ancestry.
The experts at iGENEA will provide you with personal guidance by telephone or email. Mr Roman C. Scholz, genealogy expert and Dipl. Biol. Joelle Apter, biologist, will answer any questions you may have about your result and help you if you need advice on how to continue researching your family.
