The BlecherY-DNA Surname Project
Blecher, Blejer, Bleger, Blacker and other variants is a surname derived from the profession of "tinsmith". Our Blecher family originated from Courland or Lithuania and moved to Southern Ukraine in 1843 to the Jewish agricultural settlement of Novopoltavka, Kherson Gubernia. Subsequently, at the turn of the century, they immigrated to Argentina to Jewish agricultural settlements founded by Baron Hirsch. The purpose of this project is to group the Blechers from all regions into Y-DNA haplotypes and see what conclusions we can draw about possibly related groups of Blechers.
