The BlizzardDNA Surname Project

The goal of the Blizzard DNA Project is to discover family ties and origins. All variations of the Blizzard surname are welcome to join the Blizzard Project. We need at least two matches of each Blizzard family to prove that line's Haplogroup. We are waiting for you!! We really need you to test either your y-DNA, mt-DNA or Family Finder test linking you with cousins with a Blizzard ancestor. I am a Blizzard by marriage, but even I have two Autosomal DNA matches named Blizzard or with ancestors named Blizzard. But we need you to learn more about your particular Blizzard line, as your carry their genes and you are important to us. If you join the Blizzard Surname Project, you will be entitled to the reduced group rates. You may think you know which Blizzard line you belong to, or who your ancestors were, but until you are DNA tested it is only speculation. There are two different lines from both North Carolina and Virginia. So far the project only has one y-DNA Blizzard surname match: Voluntine Blizzard and Elizabeth Lovett of SC, and a descendant of his uncle Thomas F. Blizzard, Sr. and Martha Stafford, born in SC died in Alabama are a twelve marker match. With mt-DNA we have a match of descnedants of Stephen D. Blizzard and Nancy Glandon; a descendant of Lorana Blizzard,(daughter of James Blizzard and Abiah Osborne Hand) who married Lewis Shelhorn, line of Mary Turon, co-Administrator of the Blizzard Project. DNA testing can prove which line you came from! We need as many Blizzard members as possible to join our project and sort out families. Please click on the words Request to Join at the top of the page, or simply join through your FTDNA account. Several members have had Family Finder Tests completed, as well. The Blizzard Families included in our project have descendants in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Thank you for joining!
