The Gravlee,Gravely,Gr Surname Project

Description:

Graveley / Gravlee / Gravely / Gravley/Graveli and other spellings have been found. Family project for the lineage traced to Hertfordshire England around the time of William the Conqueror. There is a grave inside the church located at Watton-at-Stone near Hartfordshire, England. Inside the church is the grave of Sir Robert de Gravelley. No documentation has been found to link our family to him at this time to this Knight, but it has been passed down generations that this was our ancestor. This family came to America probably during the early 1700's. There were at least three brothers, James, Joseph and John. Joseph was a Revolutionary War Soldier. John and Joseph lived in Patrick and Henry County Virginia and Joseph spent the rest of his life there, John moved into Easley, Pickens County, South Carolina.
