The Hosier Surname Project

Description:

Of around 60 Hosier branches that I found all over the world, there are about half a dozen American families, one of which originated in Alsas-Loraine and originally spelled Hoschaar. This family has been well traced out. The rest are or appear to be of English origin. The RI, NJ, and MD families seem to be Quaker. The RI family has been traced back to Poole, Dorsetshire. The MD family seems to have come here from London, but original from Shropshiere, and the NJ family is anyone's guess, but there is no reason to believe any of the Quaker families were related. The MA, NY, PA, VA families were not Quakers. The NC family (my own) may not have originally spelled their name Hosier but VanHooser (or Hoover) and were partime Quakers. If they did originally spell their name Hosier, then it went through a couple of changes in NC - to Hosea, then Horser, then back to Hosier in IN but to Hosey in AL and MS.Hopefully DNA can sort this out and even lead us to one single Hosier ancestor!
