The Johns Surname Project

Description:

A small number of Johns families were in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia about the time of the American Revolution. In the 1780s and 1790s, many of these families moved to Kentucky and Tennessee. In the early 1800s some of these descendants moved to Illinois, Indiana and Missouri. Unfortunately there are many gaps in Early American Records that make it difficult to prove family connections. The goal of this DNA project is to offer an opportunity to connect those families that are closely related but have been unable to prove connections using the records of our early frontier and the Colonial South. If you can trace your Johns' ancestry back to Kentucky or Tennessee prior to 1820; and/or North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia in the Colonial period, your participation in this study if VERY IMPORTANT.
