The LaMarca Surname Project
The La Marca Family Y-DNA Group Project is open to all who have this surname in their direct line. This project was established to help all La Marca's, from anywhere they live around the world, to determine if they share a common heritage. The La Marca family hails from Italy, with many from Sicily, and yet we cannot yet determine if we are related. DNA testing will confirm (or deny) if La Marca's share a common paternal heritage. If your surname is La Marca, and you are a male, please consider having your Y-DNA tested. As the Y-chromosome is passed down unchanged from father to son, it is very useful in determining direct relationships to a common ancestor with the same surname (e.g., the following individuals will have exactly the same results with others who share a common ancestor: yourself > father > grandfather > g-grandfather, g-g-grandfather, g-g-g-grandfather, etc.) Unfortunately, women do not have a Y chromosome and therefore cannot trace their heritage over many generations of La Marcas unless they have a brother or other male relative with the same surname tested. A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test. Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with this surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNA or the mtDNAPlus test and participate in an mtDNA project.
