The Leigh Surname Project
The Purpose of the Leigh Family DNA Project is to use the science of DNA to provide a test of various Leigh lines present in early Virginia and North Carolina. Virginia records began to be burned when Nathaniel Bacon burned Jamestown during his rebellion in 1676. The destruction continued during the Revolution and the War of 1812 but the major destructions occurred during the Civil War as Union and Confederate armies surged back and forth across Virginia. So paper trails and documentation are usually missing for the family researcher. In addition, since the evolution of the internet, life has been made even more difficult by the undisciplined dissemination of a great deal of erroneous information by well meaning persons. However, our bodies themselves carry a record of not only who we are but who we have been. By reading this record we can disprove irrational assertions as to our heritage and follow a truer trail.
