The Longley Surname Project

Description:

Learn kinship of Benjamin Longley of Baltimore, MD, or Joseph & William Longley of Loudoun Co., VA (from Hunterdon Co., NJ, 1763, there by 1732), their common ancestor, and through continued research learn their relationship to some other Longley/Langleys from Lower Norfolk Co., VA, SC, KY, and MO whose test results show a common ancestor, but probably a bit further back than Joseph and Benjamin's. Benjamin and Joseph both had children in Loudoun Co., VA; from there to TN; most of Benjamin's settled in OH; most of Joseph's son William's (Revolutionary vet) moved to TN, from there to MO, GA, and TX. In earliest records the spelling was Langley. Some others show a common ancestor. William Longley's son Joseph's oldest son Campbell Longley came to TX 1836 to the aid of Sam Houston. Campbell was the father of William Preston (Wild Bill) Longley, hanged in TX in 1878. See the Surnames page on website, http://OurTexasFamily.com, click Surnames button, then select Longley/Langley for more information.
