The Maleszyk Surname Project

Description:

MALESZYK (& MALEK): this family name is known in the early 1700s in Ostrow, POLAND. Said to be of Cossack descent many served the Russian Tzars and were Russian Orthodox in faith until the mid-1920s when the Orthodox Churches were summarily closed and often destroyed by the Polish government. In the U.S.A. Maleszyk was changed to Malek by some family members in the Detroit, Michigan area. This is an attempt to encourage male members of this family to have their Y-DNA tested so that we can determine better our genetic heritage.
