The McCune Surname Project

Description:

Hello! I'm the new McCune project administrator. There are three branches of the McCunes that I am particularly interested in. They are from three McCune families in Cumberland County, PA. The first is John McCune Sr. who died in Cumberland County in 1766 and had a wife named Agnes. The second is Robert McCune Sr. who died in Cumberland County in 1816. His wife was named Mary Glenn, and there is evidence that she may have been his second wife. Robert and Mary are often confused with another McCune family from Franklin County, PA: Robert and Mary Brewer. These are two totally separate lines. For more information on this you can check The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine, Vol. 44, No. 4, pp. 313-321. You can purchase a copy of the article through PERSI at a very reasonable rate. The third line is Judge James McCune and his wife Elizabeth Rotherham. This family lived briefly in Cumberland County, PA and then moved on to Huntingdon County, PA. Judge James died in 1811. I have collected DNA data from all three of these lines and would like to collect more to be sure they are accurate. Anyone male with a McCune surname is welcome to test their DNA through this project, but I will be spending more time helping folks who think they might be related to one of the three men above. I will be working on this project about once-a-month, so if I don't get back to you right away, don't worry, I will!
