The Messinger Surname Project
The MESSINGER SURNAME DNA PROJECT was created to establish a database of Messinger Y-DNA to help determine which Messinger lineages share a common ancestor. The project is open to any male having the Messinger surname or variant, or a male believing he is descended from a Messinger male. Because this is a surname project that compares Y-DNA, in order for a female to participate she must recruit a male on her father's side (such as her brother, father, uncle, or male cousin) to take the test. Testing will identify those with matching Y-DNA. Matching Y-DNA can indicate a common ancestor. The test will not provide the specific identity of the person, but will place participants in a common family group. Being a part of a family group can both supplement and facilitate genealogical research. We welcome international participants! Participants are encouraged to test at least 37 markers to facilitate appropriate clustering of the results.
