The Pelan Surname Project
Description:
The surname Pelan has two known origins - Ulster (Northern Ireland) and Slovakia/Czech Republic (Pélan). This project will help pick apart people descended from these lines and establish the connections between them, if any. As far as the Ulster surname is concerned, is it derived from O'Faolain (Phelan) ? Is it Huguenot, from Pellan or Pilon perhaps ? Or does it have another origin ? Further questions can be answered; are all Pelans closely related ? Are similar surnames from the region related? Any male bearing a listed surname (or one that sounds similar) is welcome to contribute their y-dna results but it is clearly preferable if you have a documented paternal link to Europe. Results will be compared with related projects (Whelan, France, Brittany/Bretagne etc.).
