The Piggin Surname Project

The Piggin DNA Project welcomes all participants. We encourage you to join today and take the middle, or Y-DNA37, test which offers you the best value. Our project is up and running with the first men tested, and proven to have two distinct genetic heritages. We expect to have many more exciting discoveries in future. Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your family-history research. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information about the evolution of the Piggin/Piggins surname. The surnames in this DNA Project are also researched as part of the Piggin One-Name Study. You can learn more about this extensive research, and the associated family trees, by visiting the free one-name study website,, or contacting the DNA project group administrator at this E-mail address: The Y-DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a Piggin (or variant) in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, you will need find a direct-line male from your family to represent your Piggin/Piggins family tree. We encourage males who order a Y-DNA test below to order 37 markers, if possible. If you order fewer markers, you can upgrade later, though this costs a little more. Get started now, as your DNA could be the key that unlocks the past for the whole family. Both males and females may also be interested in learning about their direct female line. Both men and women inherit mtDNA, although only women pass it on. To find out about your mother's descent, you would order a mtDNA test. Take a regular look at the Piggin Project Website at Family Tree DNA to find out more about the exciting things we have already begun adding to this surname study.
