The Rakes Surname Project
This project is for any male (or female who knows such a male) with the surname Rakes, Raikes, Raykes, Rex or any other phonetic spelling variation of Rakes. Our goal is to develop a data base of Y-DNA markers that will help identify our living relatives and validate lineages of the Rakes family from Buckingham County, Virginia. The Rakes from Buckingham are mostly included in the pedigrees of Henry Rakes, Sr. (1735-1798), Charles Rakes (1740/50-1838) and William Rakes (1750-1831). Another goal for this project is to establish a connection between the above three Rakes pedigrees of Buckingham to see how they relate to one another. Furthermore, it is hoped that this project will get the interest and support of the English Raikes who trace their ancestry back to the beginning of the 16th century to yeomen farmers in East Riding of Yorkshire. To find out more about our project please contact project manager: David Rakes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
