The SAYREDNAProject Surname Project

Description:

This project principally serves those who believe they are direct descendants or paternally related to Thomas Sayre (1597-1670), of Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England who along with his younger brother Job Sayre (1611-?) founded Southampton, Long Island, Suffolk County, New York about 1640. Thomas' wife is purported to have been Margaret Aldred/Aldrich. Thomas Sayre was the son of Francis Sayre and Elizabeth Atkins. Ancestors and descendants were first recorded in the book titled, Sayre History, by Theodore M. Banta (1901). Additional research was published by Ralph Hall Sayre in 2003 chronicling the next 100 years of descendants following Banta's work. Banta (1901) is available on Google Books, and Sayre (2003) is available on demand via iUniverse, http://www.iuniverse.com/.
