The ShevinShavinskyDNA Surname Project
The Shevin Shavinsky DNA project would like to register all male family researchers with the Shevin or Shavinsky surname and close spelling variations. We are interested in finding out whether families with this name have a common ancestor. We also hope to extend the research further back in time into Belarus. One American line is through Boruch (Barnett) Shavinsky, who was born in Kobrin, Russia (now Belarus) in 1841. He came to the United States in 1888 and settled in New York City. Afterwards, he emigrated to Jerusalem where he died about 1917. His descendants remained in the USA and adopted the surname Shevin. Other Shavinsky families lived in Drohichin, which is about 35 miles east of Kobrin.
