The Smith-Northeastern Surname Project
Description:
Smiths of CT, MA, VT, ME, NH, RI, NY, PA, OH, NJ in the United States before the 20th century. The purpose of our study is to establish as many Smith (Smithe, Smyth, Smythe) lines as possible in these states prior to the 20th century and to establish as many family groupings as possible (relationships among participants who descend from a common ancestor). Because it is a Y-chromosome DNA test, the person taking the test (a simple cheek swab) must be a male Smith. Females or males who are not Smiths could recruit male Smith relatives to participate. Do you have Smith 'brick walls' in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or New Jersey? Do you want to rule suspected relationships in or out? If so, this project may be for you. Contact cgaziano@prodigy.net for further information. Our web site is at http://www.smithconnections.com. There is also a Southern Smiths DNA project. See their website at http:\\www.southernsmiths.org. Also, there is a worldwide Smiths DNA project at http://smithfamilies.net.
