The SpearinSurname Surname Project
Description:
This project aims to establish the relationship between different people whose family name is Spearin (or one of its many variants). We have documentary evidence that many Irish Spearin's originated from London in the late 1500's so if your Y-DNA matches anyone in the core group, it is likely that your family line goes back to this source also. English Spearing's are heavily concentrated in the southwest of England, particularly around Somerset. All Spearin's and Spearing's may have originally come from northern Europe (around Holland and northern Germany) so the project also includes Spiering and variants which are still common in that area today. This project is registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.
