The Stedman Surname Project
Description:
Stedman is one of the oldest surnames in Britain and has been documented for almost 800 years. We spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales then further to America, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. Traditional paper trails aren?t always sufficient to sort out which of the current families in the UK have common ancestors nor the origin of many of those that left. The project has already made significant progress but much is still to be learnt. We need males with variations of the Stedman name to order Y-DNA 37 marker kits so we all benifit. Our project is also aligned with the Stidham project as in some parts of the United States families interchangeably used either Stedman or Stidham type spellings.
