The Stout(Scotorigin) Surname Project
Description:
There have been Stouts in the Orkney and Shetland Islands to the North of Scotland for at least 400 years. Descendents are now scattered far and wide, in particular in the former British colonies. Using traditional genealogical methods it can be shown that there are three Stout family trees originating from Fair Isle; two from the Mainland of Shetland ; and four from the South Isles of Orkney. The objective of this project is to establish whether these trees have common origins and also to provide the basis for establishing linkages to Stouts originating elsewhere, especially in the North of England and in Germany.
