The Thurber Surname Project

Description:

This project's primary goal is to help Thurbers with their genealogies. We hope to establish the Y chromosome DNA pattern of the immigrant John Thurber (c. 1626-1705, m. Priscilla ?), as well as differing patterns belonging to branches of the Thurber family where there has been a break in the direct paternal line due to a non-paternal event (adoption, infidelity, etc.)In order to do this, we need to test markers on the Y-chromosomes of men who are surnamed Thurber. Those who match very closely will know they share a common paternal ancestor at some point. With sufficient participation, the project should help Thurbers to confirm or disprove relationships that have been determined using paper evidence. It will also eventually provide clues to those who have reached a brick wall in their Thurber paternal line. Also participants will learn about their deep ancestry--the origin of their paternal line in history and prehistory.
