Since all the Van Brocklins (Van Brakel, Van Brocklens) and descendants therefrom of whom we have any family data are known to be descended directly from Cornelis Teuissen Van Brocklene, Magistrate in the Colony of Rensselairswick, (For Orange and New Albany( 1631-1632m Ref, (Dr. E.B. O'Callaghan, History of New Netherlands, Vol. 1, Appendix II, page 434, through his son Gysbert Gerritse Van Brakel, then his eldest son Gerrit Gysbertse Van Brakel, baptized in Albany, July 13, 1688, who married Catryntje Van der Volgen, daughter of Claus Laurence Van der Volgen and Marytie Teunis Swart in the Dutch Reformed Church in Schenectady, NY, on October 15, 1704, it has long been believed that all Van Brocklins in the United States are related. The purpose of the Van Brocklin Surname Database Project is to scientifically discover through DNA whether this belief is true.
