The Verlander Surname Project
Description:
The object of this project is to determine whether the five different family trees for the surname Verlander are related or not. The trees have been built up by The Verlander Society since it was set up on 25th July 1993. The trees are named after their main location: Colchester, Poplar, Bermondsey, Virginia, Louisiana. Most people in the world named Verlander or its variants seem to relate to one or other of these trees. The name and its variants were derived after the 16th century from the Flemish vander Lende. DNA testing has been done on two members of each of the three UK trees. This confirms the trees are not closely related, despite the name. Any other Verlanders who apply for testing will be able to compare their DNA with those tested already to discover to which tree they belong.
