Seeking participants with Vilet, Vilett, Villet, Viola, Violet, Violett, Violette, Vylet, Vylit, Vyolet and/or similar surname derivatives worldwide. Kinship to families with known ancestry is not required.Descendants of François Violet, who settled near Van Buren, Maine in 1789 are encouraged to participate.On September 16th, 1647, the goldsmith Thomas Violet, a native of Antwerp, Belgium was a prisoner in the Tower of London. His descendants or relatives in France, England may participate.Descendants of the Violettes of Virginia are also invited. The 1887 obituary of Edward Violette who died in Holden, Missouri reads, in part: ...Before his death, he called to his wife to bring out some relics he had not revealed the history thereof, which had been handed down for generations, consisting of covers and spoons...The spoons are about 200 years old... Over a century later, we know he also passed down another clue to his Colonial Virginia ancestry -- his DNA.
