The Ware Surname Project

WARE Surname DNA Project Background The WARE DNA Project welcomes all WARE family members and others with Y-DNA or Family Finder results which match participating WARE Family Members to join our group. The Ware surname project is growing, and encourage membership from those residing in the United States, Ireland, or the United Kingdom; however, we do encourage WARE's from anywhere to participate. Many distinct WARE family groups have been identified and these are displayed in the Y-DNA results on the tab above. We are making exciting discoveries from almost every member who joins the project. Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your research of your family tree. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, it is envisaged the results for the various family trees will provide information on the evolution of the surname. The Y-DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a WARE in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, you will need to find a direct line male in your family tree to participate and represent your tree. The primary scope of the project is based on testing Y-DNA for uncovering your WARE surname genealogy. This is both the now well-known Y-DNA STR testing and the deeper ancestral (SNP) tests to precisely determine your Y-DNA Haplogroup. We do encourage our members to do other DNA testing, such as mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and autosomal DNA (FamilyFinder). Your Family Finder results are compared with other Family Finder results of both females and males in the database. The results are predicted to have a 99% chance of matching 2nd cousins or closer, 90% for 3rd cousins, 50% for 4th cousins and 10% for 5th cousins on both your maternal and paternal side, provided such cousins have also taken the Family Finder test with FTDNA. The results are automatically displayed in the Family Finder matches on your personal FTDNA page. We can give you some guidance on those tests if you have questions but do not actively monitor the results due lack of resources. IMPORTANT PROJECT DETAILS: Project Administrators are VOLUNTEERS who are interested in WARE genealogy and in using DNA to help solve genealogy problems. The only benefit we derive from our service is the satisfaction that we have helped provide an infrastructure by which you might extend your genealogy. We do not work for FamilyTreeDNA and have no special access or control over their operations. When you need to email the Project Administrator, please use the email address This email address will get you a response more rapidly as the email is forwarded to all of the administrators. Project Administrators are the right persons to ask first if you have Project or DNA related questions. The WARE Surname DNA project uses the RootsWeb WARE Surname email list as our communication tool. We encourage all members to subscribe to this list. The WARE Project Administrator is also a member of this email list. Subscribe to WARE Email List. When you have questions about WARE genealogy, please use the RootsWeb WARE Surname email list to ask questions. That list has hundreds of subscribers, and someone on the list might be able to help. You can also post a message on the WARE Surname Message Board. The Project Administrators are NOT experts on the genealogy of all WARE families. We each have WARE families we have researched, but there are just too many WARE families for you to expect that we can help with yours. We encourage males who order a Y-DNA test to order 37 or 67 markers.
