Tracing the Deep-Rooted History and Global Span of Manning Surname Through iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Manning

My recent iGENEA DNA test uncovered surprising insights and deep heritage about my surname 'Manning'. The test indicated a strong Irish origin for the surname that goes back centuries and also pointed out connections in England and Wales. Distinct genetic markers linked the surname to the R1b haplogroup, common in Western Europe, broadening the lineage's historical scope to include a narrative of survival, migration, and international dispersion.

Understanding one's genealogical roots can be an enriching experience, and that is exactly what I found in my iGENEA DNA test. The scientific findings generated from the test provided significant insight into the lineage of the surname 'Manning'. The results indicated that this surname has a rich and varied history, and it hails significantly from Irish roots and narrates a story of migration and survival.

The test findings highlighted a strong genetic code linage that originates from the Gaelic term 'Magh Nuadhat', meaning 'descendant of the valorous'. The test suggested the Manning bearers have significant links to ancient Irish heritage but also have established connections in England and Wales.

In my DNA, remarkable markers were identified that links the surname Manning to the R1b haplogroup, a large family predominantly in Western Europe. This suggests a strong prevalence of Manning ancestors in Celtic populations, potentially migrating during the Celtic invasions.

Further, my DNA test revealed that around the 12th century, bearers of the name Manning began appearing in England. However, it was evident a noticeable chunk of Manning lineage remained in Ireland. The Mannings in Ireland often held societal positions of power and respect, with some even ruling medieval kingdoms.

Moreover, the test divulged the impact of political and economic circumstances on the distribution of the Manning lineage, including the Great Famine of Ireland and subsequent mass evictions. These events contributed to the dispersion of Manning ancestors across Europe, the Americas, and later Australia and New Zealand.

Overall, the iGENEA DNA test shed light on the deep-seated history and global span of the Manning surname. Establishing these genetic connections and heritage markers bring a sense of belonging and identity that I never knew existed.

M. Manning
