Revamping Identity: My Unexpected DNA Journey Unearthing the Flood Ancestry

I embarked on a self-discovery journey, taking a DNA test at iGENEA. The unexpected revelations about the different strands present in my gene pool shifted my perspective on my ancestors named ‘Flood.’
Prior to my DNA test at iGENEA, my understanding of my ancestral lineage was considerably vague. After getting the results of my test, I obtained a clearer, more detailed picture of my lineage, particularly about my ancestors named 'Flood.' Initially, I was under the impression that the Floods were from, predominantly, an Irish Catholic background with a dash of French and Italian lineage.
However, the DNA test toppled some of these beliefs. There was indeed an Irish strand in my DNA, but it was surprisingly less than what was believed. And the speculated French and Italian lineage was noticeable, but not in the quantities previously theorized.
The test revealed that the Floods had significant Scandinavian Viking roots. This was a revelation - an entirely unanticipated one. This would explain our family's seafaring tendencies that have been passed down the generations.
Additionally, Eastern European strands were also traceable in the DNA test. This led to further research historically tracing few Floods migrating and settling in Eastern Europe during the expansion era of the British Empire.
These unexpected insights have shifted my personal understanding of my roots and heritage. They've made me more aware of who I am and where I come from. Recognizing the different lineages that have merged over centuries to create my unique genetic makeup was fascinating.
This transformative journey has not only reshaped my knowledge about my ancestors but also influenced and changed my perspective on myself. I'm eager to continue my journey, exploring my ancestry and searching for more unexpected revelations that might be hidden in my DNA.
