Family name Peeler

The detailed iGENEA DNA test results have shed exciting light on my ancestral heritage, particularly linked to my surname, Peeler. The scientific findings suggest the Peeler surname falls under the R1b Y-DNA haplogroup, commonly found in Western Europe. Additionally, the test underlines a significant presence of the Peeler name in Western Scotland, indicating Scottish origins. Mothers originating from Western Europe, occupational indications, and intriguing migration patterns tell an engaging story surrounding the origins of the Peeler surname.

My iGENEA DNA test has produced fascinating results, offering a deeper understanding of my lineage and, in particular, the surname Peeler. The report highlighted several findings that even further ascertain my ancestral heritage.

Primarily, the results revealed that the surname Peeler falls under the R1b Y-DNA haplogroup, the most common in Western Europe. Surprisingly, about 80 percent of men in Western Ireland, over half of men in Spain, France, and the British Isles, and about 90 percent of men in parts of the Basque country carry this haplogroup. Besides, the Peeler surname significantly appears among men in the highlands of Western Scotland, signifying Scottish origins.

My mitochondrial DNA falls under the H-haplogroup, the most common in Western Europe. It suggests that my maternal lineage possibly originates from Western Europe. It traces back approximately 20,000 years to a single woman, who, anthropologists believe, lived in the Dordogne region of France during a glacial period of the Ice Age.

The test showcased that the Peeler surname has a high frequency of traditional English and German occupations such as "peeler", who would have been tasked with roles related to stripping or cutting. This suggests a long history of professional involvement in these industries.

The surname Peeler, according to the results, exhibits a variety of minor mutations, which indicate the various migration patterns that ancestors carrying this surname may have undergone. Some migrated to Central Europe and further onto Eastern Europe and Asia, while others moved to Scandinavia and Ireland.

These scientific findings have successfully given me a broad and insightful glimpse into my ancestry, linking me with various parts of Europe and highlighting a rich history, crafted over millennia, associated with the Peeler surname.
