The Fitz-Henry Surname Project
Description:
The Fitz(-)Henry DNA Project welcomes all Fitz-Henry and Fitzhenry family members whether or not you have a hyphen in your name. We also welcome the Fitzsenry family of the USA who were originally a branch of the Fitzhenry family, the Fitzharris family and those with the surname Henry, McHenry or O'Henry. We expect to have many exciting discoveries, but we can only do it with your help - so if you are male, a Fitzhenry a Fitz-Henry or a Fitzsenry, and want to be part of the opportunity to add more knowledge to our Fitz(-)henry family tree, then please read on... Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your Fitz(-)henry family history research. We will discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information about the evolution of the surname. The surnames in this DNA Project are researched as part of the Fitz-Henry one-name study. You can learn more about our research, and help to contribute to it, by visiting the one-name study web site or contacting the Group Administrator (Jo Fitz-Henry). Here's our Blog http://fitz-henry.blogspot.com Here's our website http://www.fitzhenrydna.com Here's us at the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) http://one-name.org/profiles/fitz-henry.html ... and here's how you can contact me: Fitz-Henry@one-name.org Now here's the science... The Y DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test as only men have the Y chromosome which is tested and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a Fitz-Henry or Fitzhenry or variant in your direct male line, although you have a different surname (because an ancestor took to his mother's name), you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, you will need to find a direct line male in your family tree to participate and represent your tree. It's the perfect present for the man who has everything! We encourage men who order a Y DNA test to order 37 markers, if possible. This gives us enough worthwhile information about the different family tree branches. If you order less markers, you can upgrade later, though this costs a little more.
