The Deatherage Surname Project
The objectives of Deatherage DNA Project are 1) to determine the relationships of Deatherages around the world 2) to determine the European point of origin of our Deatherage ancestor, 3) to confirm the paper trail and family history that William Deatherage (first record in 1734 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia) was the progenitor of the Deatherage family in the United States. The family history indicates he had five sons (Robert, Philemon, John, Achilles, George) and one daughter (Susan). The paper trail has established that Robert, Philemon, John, George were brothers. 4) To place Deatherages who have lived or are living in the United States who we have not confirmed as having descended from one of the five sons of William, and 5) to show our connection to any Deatherage including variant spellings located anywhere in the world through DNA testing and sharing of information. All spelling variations are welcome. If your Surname spelling is missing, we'll be glad to add it. A longer term objective would be to verify the paper trail and family history of the names of the wives of William and his five sons above through mtDNA.
